Using the Holiday to Boost SAT Scores

Although school holidays are a tremendous relief for many students (& their families), they can impede SAT prep by causing students to take weeks--if not months--away from a consistent practice schedule. Here are some things you can do to utilize the holiday schedule, especially the extended Winter break.

Learn vocabulary words.
Stop procrastinating with your word list. Make flashcards, and study the words. Your verbal SAT score will certainly benefit from your time investment.

Read for 1 hour each day.
A break from school is a break from daily homework and class attendance. It's not meant to be a time to avoid intellectual stimulation. So read.

Avoid Cramming, please.
Many students think break is a perfect time to meet daily with an SAT tutor. It's not. Preparing for an SAT is not about cramming; it's about dedicating yourself to a consistent practice schedule over an extended period of time. Your SAT score will improve more if you spend 4 hours per week practicing for 12 weeks, instead of 4 hours per day for 12 days.
